A sweet and fruit-forward coffee that tastes of strawberry, chocolate and ripe peach.

/

We have been waiting patiently for these Ethiopians to land in the US and we are finally kicking things off with this natural lot from female producer, Shitaye Abebe.

Ethiopia is a country that produces mostly fruit-forward coffees. We get a lot of citric acidity and floral qualities shining through in the cup - especially in the Grade 1 lots that we buy. Over the years, we've had the pleasure of drinking a lot of Ethiopian coffees and these days we are able to really identify distinct differences from region-to-region.

Chelchele is a village/kebele in Gedeb, one of the four districts/woredas within the Gedeo Zone. The local washing stations here have become famous for producing outstanding cups of coffee. Coffees from Gedeb taste "pink" to us. Think strawberry candy and almost artificial florality.

This particular lot was separated based on the quality and volume that Shitaye Abebe produces. It's a naturally processed lot and shows many of the jammy strawberry and chocolate we have come to expect from natural Ethiopians but with the addition of some excellent, crisp acidity and refreshing notes of ripe peach.
